Great Racing in Pure Stock Division this Season

Birch Run, Michigan (Thursday, May 17, 2018) – Great racing resumes at the magnificent Birch Run Speedway & Event Center this Friday evening. May 18th will be the second House Racing event of the 2018 campaign. The first House Night, back on May 4th, was the first night of House or “weekly”, racing at Birch Run Speedway since the 2013 season.   Last event, Dan Leeck, piloting his Helm Electric, Mr. Asphalt number 74 had to battle past Blake Childers’ Motor City Builders number 33 to win the 25 lap Pro Late Model feature event.   Travis Eddy (78) drove to the front of the field early in the O’Guinn Family Funeral Homes Modified division feature race and cruise to victory lane. Scott Quaal (1Q) started scratch in the feature and was able to charge to second place but didn’t have enough to get around Eddy.   Lonnie Saumier’s race day didn’t get off to the best start. Though he qualified his Lonnie’s M15 Towing Pure Stock near the top of the charts, mechanical failure forced him to retire his car for the night. Saumier cut a deal to drive the number 9 car, normally driven by Greg Kidd, for the remainder of the night. In the feature race, Saumier fought his way through the field, battling with front runners, Hunter Doutre, Dave Stern and Andrew Burton. When the checkered flag flew on the entertaining race, Lonnie Sauimer wound up in victory lane, with the barrowed number 9 machine. Heat race wins went to Duane Damon and Hunter Doutre, earlier in the program.   Great weather and more race cars are expected this weekend. The Pure Stock division has set the bar high going into Friday’s race, after two exciting race nights in the books. Lonnie Saumier (M15) has scored 197 of a possible 200 points thus far. Though he has a 19 point advantage over second place, Andrew Burton (05), it hasn’t been easy for the Pure Stock veteran. Dave Stern (17), who’s been traveling down from Whittemore Speedway, currently sits third in the championship standings, 28 points behind leader Saumier. Hunter Doutre (73) is forth, 29 points back and the “Pit Bull” Duane Damon (2) is currently ranked fifth, 47 markers back from the lead.   Highly accomplished Modified ace, Travis Eddy (78) leads the O’Guinn Family Funeral Homes Modified Division championship point standings. Eddy has a marginal 63 point advantage over second place, Jason Congdon (4C). Robbie Johnson (21) sits third, Rick Wiecorek (1W) forth and Blake Rowe (57) fifth.   Dan Leeck (74) leads the way in the Pro Late Model point standings. Blake Childers (33) is currently scored in second, thirteen markers back. Austin Fredwall (18) is third in points, Alex Hagon (18) is forth and Brandon Varney (77) rounds out the top five.
